Unified Fitness

What is Unified Fitness?

Unified Fitness is an off-season fitness program. Partners of similar-age people with and without intellectual disabilities training together at least twice a week. Unified Fitness can be offered in a group setting led by Trainers where sites are available.

Unified Fitness happens at a school, university, gym, fitness center or home. Participants meet a minimum of twice a week for 60 minutes.  Health education is included throughout the 12-weeks and fitness evaluations are at the start and end of the program. Partners register together and exercise together. As sites are available, Trainers lead Unified Fitness to include the education and evaluation.

If you are a Trainer: We’re looking for fitness professionals such as Certified Personal Trainers, Certified Group Exercise Instructors, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, to help our athletes meet their goals.

Your role would be to support a 12-week program that includes fitness testing along with twice-a-week group workouts, and weekly nutrition and healthy lifestyle education. One of the many benefits is that trainers can earn free continuing education credits by taking the Special Olympics Inclusive Fitness Training course through American Council on Exercise (ACE).

If you are looking to volunteer, apply or learn more, please reach out to Charla Stein, Healthy Communities Coordinator.
