Sports Management Teams

Each official SOPA sport has a sport director (volunteer position) to serve as an extension of the state sports staff and to be responsible for helping to expand opportunities for Special Olympics athletes throughout Pennsylvania.  The sport director assists with state-level competitions and training schools.  Sport directors also recruit and manage a sport management team (SMT) for their sport.  Sport directors are available to coaches as a resource and to help them with their athlete training and competition duties.

SMTs act as a further extension of the state sports staff and are responsible for developing initiatives and actions to increase the growth of their respective sports.  The sport director and SMT develop a yearly sports plan.  For a listing of Sport Directors and SMT members click on Sport Directors
