Pittsburgh UNcathlon Event Information

UNcathlon is a UNique team challenge that unleashes the human spirit through the transformative power of teamwork, bringing awareness to Special Olympics Pennsylvania.

The event will be UNified, UNconventional & UNforgettable! Teams are UNified; meaning each team pairs Special Olympics athletes with representatives from law enforcement, corporate partners, student athletes and donors.

Participants will be challenged both physically and mentally; and will be tasked with the additional challenge of raising funds in support of 13,000 Pennsylvania athletes.

The UNcathlon event embodies SOPA’s mission: Inclusion and acceptance through sport. Similar to a Special Olympics Unified Track & Field competition, this unique event consists of track and field events, with an additional element of fundraising! Since the UNcathlon is a fundraiser benefiting SOPA, the final ‘event’ is FUNDRAISING! The funds raised help to provide training and sport competitions, free of charge to thousands of deserving athletes.

The Pittsburgh UNcathlon is Sunday, October 6, 2024 and starts at 10:45 am!

The Pittsburgh UNcathlon is at Peters Township High School in McMurray, PA.

The events include a variety of sporting events that might include rowing, basketball, or golf. It is a surprise but there is an event for everyone! The final “event” is fundraising, as the total money raised by each team will count towards the team’s points in the competition.

Spectators are welcome and encouraged to come cheer on the competitors! There will also be entertainment on-site.

Yes, there are volunteer opportunities. Areas of need include: Scorekeeping, event set-up, registration & refreshments, site managers, event breakdown, and more.

Healthy food and beverages provided to participants. Non-participants are permitted to bring in outside food and beverage. There will be no concession sales.

If you wish to organize/sponsor, we require teams of 4 that will be paired with a Special Olympics athlete.

The event will be both indoors and outdoors (weather permitting).

Yes, EMTs will be on-site for the events.

Points are distributed based on standings in each event. The team with the most points at the end will be declared the winner.
